Carlin kuoli 22. kesäkuuta 2008 sairaalassa sydämen vajaatoimintaan. Carlinilla oli ollut sydänvaivoja jo aiemmin.

Siinä meni ehdottomasti maailman paras stand up-koomikko ikinä...

"A sad loss ...

ET breaks the news that comedian George Carlin has died from heart failure. The man who made famous the "seven words you can never say on television" passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, his longtime publicist said. He was 71.

Monday morning, his daughter Kelly Carlin McCall had the following to say about her dad: "Most people know George Carlin as an icon of comedy and an advocate of free speech. I just know him as Dad ... And what a dad he was. He taught me the value of speaking the truth in a world that doesn't always want to hear it and gave me the gift of laughter. He was loved and revered by so many and will be missed beyond words -- but never forgotten. Our family wishes to thank everyone who has sent love and support our way. Your kind words and thoughts are bringing much comfort to us during such a difficult time."

His wife, Sally Wade, also spoke out about the loss of her "soul mate." "George Carlin was and always will be the greatest love of my life. We had meeting of the minds, heart and spirit. It was a big love. He was my soul mate and always will be. Tomorrow is our tenth anniversary, and it was the best ten years of my life. It's quite a shock right now, but I wish to express my sincere thanks and prayers to all who have reached out during this very difficult time. It is deeply appreciated."

Carlin, who has had several heart attacks and a history of cardiac issues, went into the hospital Sunday afternoon after complaining of heart problems.

HBO, which submitted the funny man's last special, "It's Bad for Ya" for Emmy consideration this year, issued the following statement: "Because HBO has had such a long and close relationship with George Carlin, his passing is like losing one of our own. George had been a part of HBO almost since its beginning, performing his first concert for us in 1977, and his 14th special just earlier this year. No performer was more important to helping our network define itself in its early years. And no performer was more committed to the ideal of freedom of speech, a principle he embodied for the 50 years he performed with his trademark wit. We will miss his humor and his righteous comic anger, and we will simply miss him."

Carlin has more than 20 comedy albums, 14 HBO specials, numerous TV and movie roles, and three best-selling books to his credit. Last year, he celebrated his 50th year in show business.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Wade; daughter, Kelly Carlin McCall; and older brother, Patrick Carlin. "

Vuonna 2007 "taiteilija" Guillermo Vargas Habacuc otti kadulta kulkukoiran, sitoi koiran taidegalleriaan ja antoi sen nääntyä kuoliaaksi. (Katso liitteen kuvat)

Useita päiviä "taiteilija" ja galleriavieraat katsoivat tunteetta tätä "mestariteosta", jonka koiran kuolinkamppailu muodosti. Lopulta koira menehtyi.

Echols, Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin.

These men have been locked up for almost a decade and a half for something they did not do, and the many efforts to expose what happened to them in those Arkansas courtrooms is even more powerful and committed than ever. Time hasn't diminished the outrage or the frustration over verdicts that grow even more absurd as the years have passed and more is learned about what really happened to the murder victims.

West Memphis Three Worldwide Awareness Day is a way for people all over the world to come together to organize their own benefits, awareness-raising and fundraising events to help keep this tragic injustice in the public eye and to generate funding for the ongoing legal and investigative work that will free these three men. The world is aware of this case and there's no chance of it disappearing. There are too many eyes and ears and voices now."

"Toukokuun 5. päivä 1993 alkoi kuin mikä tahansa päivä West Memphisin kaupungissa Yhdysvaltojen Arkansasissa. Kahdeksanvuotiaat Steve Branch, Christopher Byers ja Michael Moore lähtivät kouluun, kävivät tuntinsa läpi ja lähtivät kotiin. Eivätkä ikinä päässeet perille asti. Seuraavana iltapäivänä pojat löydettiin Robin Hood Hillsin alueen läpi virtaavan puron rantamilta kuoliaaksi pahoinpideltyinä. Byersin murha oli viimeistelty kastraatiolla.

Niinpä hartaan uskonnollisessa 28 000 asukkaan pikkukaupungissa oli syyllinen pakko saada kiinni. Paikalliselle poliisille kyseessä oli ensimmäinen tämän raakuus- ja kokoluokan rikos. Rikospaikkaa tutkiessaan (ja myöhemminkin) viranomaiset syyllistyivät taitamattomuuttaan lähes kaiken todistusaineiston tuhoamiseen ja hukkaamiseen.

Kenelläkään ei ollut mitään käsitystä siitä, kuka moiseen julmuuteen olisi voinut kyetä – paitsi paikallisella nuorisovalvojalla. Hän oli jo vuosia ”joutunut” kuulustelemaan tummatukkaista, tummiin pukeutuvaa ja synkänoloista Damien Echolsia, mikäli jotain rikollista ilmeni.

Potentiaalisella syntilistalla oli muun muassa laserlaitteiden varastaminen junasta, joka oli ajanut kaupungin läpi vauhtiaan hidastamatta. Myös sadan mailin päässä tapahtuneesta murhasta Echols jäi tuomitsematta todisteiden puutteessa. Nyt oli kuitenkin aika saada nalkkiin Echols ja hänen mitä ilmeisimmin johtamansa satanistikultti.

Erinäiset syyllistämisyritykset tuottivat hedelmää vasta kun (ehkäpä sen tarjotun 30 000 taalan vihjepalkkion houkuttelemana) 17-vuotias kehitysvammainen Jessie Misskelley, äo 72, ilmoittautui silminnäkijäksi. 12 tuntia kestäneen, vain osittain tallennetun kuulustelun aikana hän onnistui syyllistämään paitsi Echolsin, myös itsensä sekä ikätoverinsa Jason Baldwinin.

Tohtori Richard Ofshe, Pulitzer-palkittu johdateltujen todistuslausuntojen tutkija kuvasi oikeudenkäynnissä Misskelleyn puheita ”klassiseksi esimerkiksi” poliisin pakottamasta tunnustuksesta. Kaiken lisäksi Misskelley oli todistettavasti kertonut murhien tapahtuneen uhrien istuessa vielä koulussa, mutta muuttanut lausumaansa kuulustelijan johdattelemana.

Pikkukaupungin julma huhumylly piti huolen asioiden kulusta, vaikka minkäänlaisia konkreettisia todisteita nuorten syyllisyydestä ei ollut. Koska heidän alibinsa perustuivat vain tuttujen ja sukulaisten todistuksiin, niitä ei pidetty pitävinä. Todisteena Echolsia vastaan käytettiin Stephen Kingin kirjoja, Baldwinin taas syyllistivät mustat bändi-t-paidat sekä Blue Oyster Cultin ja Pink Floydin sanoitukset.

Pitkällisen käsittelyn jälkeen oikeus päätyi tuomitsemaan Echolsin kuolemaan sekä Baldwinin ja Misskelleyn elinikäiseen vankeuteen.

The West Memphis Threeksi nimetyn kolmikon vapauttamista ajavan ryhmittymän nettisivuilta www.wm3.org on löydettävissä kasapäin informaatiota esimerkiksi siitä, miksi puukotushaavoihin sopiva, Christopher Byersin isäpuolen John Mark Byersin omistama kääntöveitsi ei päätynyt oikeuteen todistuskappaleeksi. Poliisi oli kyllä tutkinut veitsessä olleet veritahrat, joiden verityyppi oli sama kuin Christopherin, mutta sen jälkeen sotkenut veitsen dna-testiin kelpaamattomaksi.

Syksyllä 1996 ilmestyi Joe Berlingerin ja Bruce Sinofskyn tapausta käsittelevä dokumenttielokuva Paradise Lost, jota toissavuonna seurannut jatko-osa pisti liikettä myös legendaarisen Black Flag punkyhtyeen pääjehuun, vakaaseen oikeuden mieheen Henry Rollinsiin. Hän kasasi edesmenneen yhtyeensä soittamaan klassikkonsa uudelleen ja laulajiksi pestattiin Motörheadin Lemmy, Slipknotin Corey Taylor, Iggy Pop, Ryan Adams ja Ice-T.

Tämän lokakuussa ilmestyvän Rise Above levyn tuotolla aiotaan hankkia pojille riittävän pätevää lakiapua, jotta oikeus vihdoin toteutuisi.
