En muista paljoakaan synnyinpaikastani. Siellä oli ahdasta ja pimeää, eivätkä ihmiset koskaan leikkineet kanssamme. Muistan äitini ja hänen pehmeän turkkinsa, mutta hän oli usein sairas ja hyvin laiha. Hänellä oli vain vähän maitoa minulle ja sisaruksilleni. Muistan monien sisaruksieni kuolleen ja kaipaan heitä niin.
Muistan myös päivän, jolloin minut vietiin pois äitini luota. olin niin surullinen ja peloissani, maitohampaanikin olivat juuri puhjenneet. Minun olisi pitänyt pysyä äitini luona pidempään, mutta hän oli niin sairas. Niin meidät pantiin laatikkoon ja vietiin johonkin outoon paikkaan. Vain me kaksi.
Olimme peloissamme ja painauduimme kiinni toisiimme, yksikään ihminen ei silittänyt eikä rakastanut meitä. Niin paljon nähtävää, ääniä ja hajuja! Olemme kaupassa, jossa on paljon erilaisia eläimiä! Jotkut vaakkuvat! Jotkut naukuvat ja toiset piipittävät!
Minut on lukittu siskoni kanssa pieneen häkkiin, voin kuulla muiden pentujen ääniä täältä. Näen ihmisten katselevan minua. Pidän erityisesti "pienistä ihmisistä", lapsista. He näyttävät niin suloisilta ja hauskoilta, ihan kuin he haluaisivat leikkiä kanssani!
Kaikki päivät vietämme pienessä häkissämme, joskus ilkeät ihmiset lyövät ikkunaan pelotellakseen meitä. Silloin tällöin meidät viedään ulos ihmisten nähtäväksi. Jotkut ovat helliä mutta toiset satuttavat meitä. Saamme aina kuulla "Ne on niin söpöjä! Tahdon tuollaisen!", mutta koskaan emme pääse kenenkään mukaan.
Siskoni kuoli viime yönä, kun kauppa oli pimeänä. Painoin pääni hänen pehmeälle turkilleen ja tunsin elämän jättävän hänen pienen, laihan ruumiinsa. Olin kuullut ihmisten sanovan, että hän oli sairas ja minutkin pitäisi myydä alennushintaan, että pääsisivät minusta äkkiä eroon. Luulen pehmeän ininäni olleen ainoa (ääni), joka suri häntä kun hänen ruumiinsa aamulla otettiin pois häkistä ja heitettiin roskikseen.
Tänään tuli perhe ja osti minut! Voi onnen päivää! He ovat todella mukava perhe ja he todella, todella halusivat minut! He olivat ostaneet kupin ja ruokaa minulle ja perheen tyttö piti minua hellästi sylissään. Rakastan häntä niin paljon! Tytön äiti ja isä kehuvat minua suloiseksi ja hyväksi pennuksi! Minut nimetään Angeliksi (Enkeliksi).
Rakastan nuolla uusia ihmisiäni! Perhe pitää minusta hyvää huolta, he ovat helliä ja rakastavat minua. Hellävaroen he opettavat minulle oikean ja väärän, antavat hyvää ruokaa ja paljon rakkautta. Haluan ainoastaan miellyttää näitä ihania ihmisiä! Rakastan pikku tyttöä ja pidän leikkimisestä hänen kanssaan!
Tänään kävin eläinlääkärillä. Se oli outo paikka ja minua pelotti. Sain pari rokotusta, mutta paras ystäväni, pikku tyttö piti minua hellästi ja sanoi sen olevan OK. Niinpä rentouduin.
Eläinlääkäri varmaankin sanoi surullisia sanoja rakkaalle perheelleni, koska he näyttivät kamalan onnettomilta. Kuulin vakavasta lonkkaviasta ja jotain sydämestäni... Kuulin eläinlääkärin sanovan jotain "epämääräisistä kasvattajista" ja siitä, että vanhempiani ei varmaankaan oltu kuvattu. En ymmärtänyt eläinlääkärin puheita, ainoastaan sen, että minua koskee nähdä perheeni näin surullisena. Mutta he silti rakastavat minua ja minäkin rakastan heitä hyvin paljon!
Olen nyt kuusi kuukautta vanha. Siinä missä useimmat muut pennut ovat vankkoja ja riehakkaita, minuun sattuu kauheasti jo pelkkä liikkuminenkin. Kipu ei koskaan hellitä. Minuun sattuu leikkiä ja juosta rakkaan pikku-tyttöni kanssa ja minun on myös vaikea hengittää. Yritän parhaani ollakseni se vahva pentu, mikä minun pitäisi olla, mutta se on niin vaikeaa.
Sydämeni särkyy kun näen pikku-tytön niin surullisena ja kuulen Äidin ja Isän sanovan: "nyt on varmaankin aika".
Useita kertoja olen käynyt eläinlääkärillä, eivätkä uutiset ole koskaan hyviä. Aina puhutaan synnynnäisistä ongelmista. Haluan vain tuntea lämpimän auringonpaisteen, leikkiä ja helliä perhettäni.
Viime yö oli pahin. Kipu on nyt ainainen olotilani, juominenkin koskee. Yritän nousta, mutta voin ainoastaan inistä kivusta. Minut viedään autoon viimeisen kerran. Kaikki ovat niin surullisia, enkä tiedä miksi. Olenko ollut tuhma? Yritän aina olla hyvä ja rakastettava, mitä olen tehnyt väärin? Voi kun tämä kipu vain menisi pois! Kunpa vain pystyisin pysäyttämään pienen tytön kyyneleet. Yritän nuolla hänen kättään, mutta voin vain valittaa kivusta.
Eläinlääkärin pöytä on kovin kylmä. Minua niin pelottaa. Ihmiset kaikki halaavat minua ja itkevät pehmeään turkkiini. Voin tuntea heidän rakkautensa ja surunsa. Onnistun nuolemaan pehmeästi heidän käsiään. Eläinlääkärikään ei näytä niin pelottavalta tänään. Hän on hellä ja aavistan jonkinlaista helpotusta kivulleni.
Pikku-tyttö pitää minua pehmeästi ja kiitän häntä kaikesta antamastaan rakkaudesta. Tunnen pienen piston etujalassani. Kipu alkaa hellittää ja tunnen rauhan laskeutuvan ylleni. Voin nyt nuolla pehmeästi hänen kättään. Oloni muuttuu nyt unenomaiseksi ja näen äitini ja sisarukseni kaukaisessa vehreässä paikassa. He kertovat minulle ettei siellä ole kipua ainoastaan rauhaa ja onnellisuutta. Jätän hyvästit perheelleni ainoalla tuntemallani tavalla, pienellä hännän heilautuksella ( ja hellällä kuonon tökkäisyllä).
Olin toivonut viettäväni monta vuotta heidän kanssaan, mutta niin vain ei ollut tarkoitettu.
"Nähkääs", sanoi eläinlääkäri: "eläinkaupasta ostetut pennut eivät tule kunnon kasvattajilta".
Kipu poistuu nyt ja tiedän, että tulee kulumaan monta vuotta kunnes näen rakkaan perheeni uudelleen.

Tätä tarinaa saa julkaista ja levittää toivoen,
että se pysäyttää moraalittomat kasvattajat ja ne jotka kasvattavat pentuja vain rahan eikä rodun parantamisen vuoksi.
