American football, also called gridiron football in America and Canada and called football in England and Wales, is an intercollegiate team sport played between two teams of fifteen players each. It started as a game for student-athletes at colleges in the mid-nineteenth century, but was adopted by the professional soccer teams in the early twentieth century. The popularity of the game has greatly risen since then and thousands of people from all walks of life to play the game. The earliest game that has been placed in a modern context is the American football. It is played between two teams consisting of eleven players with each team playing for thirty-minute duration. The football game starts with the offense team running to the thirty yard line while the defense team does the opposite. After the ball is snapped, it is then forced through the football field by the force of gravity. Every player on the playing field must keep his feet on the playing field until the ball is thrown. The football is thrown to one side of the playing field by using an upward motion of the leg. The object of the game is for the football to touch the end zone or the net at the point of the catch.
