people seriously believe O-man The Chosen One will save us all and your icky neighbour too?
that the near east will find peace, that everyone gets infinite free clean energy, that love reigns with hope and change and blah blah?
(joe biden, rahm emanuel sound reeeeal nice, and the names popping up in speculations about cabinet positions do bring hope and change to mind, too - larry summers and robert gates, anyone?)

what can make anyone trust a guy who obviously wants power over his fellow living beings (obvious because he ran for president, obvious because he went into politics and stayed there)?

in general, why do you blindly trust your rulers (eyes that are theoretically open don't help, it's the action that matters - this is where i, too, fail most of the time)? shouldn't it be obvious that an at least remotely balanced person wouldn't be so arrogant or stupid or both as to believe he could have any chance of succesfully leading a country, when most decent people have enough trouble trying to lead their own lives?
(yes, people can be succesful and lead companies and countries and whatnot, but they really have no, and often don't want any, say about whether their leadership REALLY contributes to any "greater good". and everybody has their own concept of that, anyway.)

yeah, why believe anything at all? well, maybe you have to, but still, leave the fundamentalism at home and burn it.

anyway, my bet (and many others' it seems), is that obama will be something of a clinton (during whose presidency belgrade was bombed, iraq sanctioned on, so that probably thousands starved, a regime change there (iraq, duh) made part of u.s. policy, while nothing was done about rwanda. for example).
better'n gee dubya or senile mcbush or bible spice, maybe, but is that really the best we deserve?

on the other hand, there's little enough to be happy about in the model universe of politics, so it's probably best to enjoy whatever bright spots happen to briefly form. right now, there is more hope than there was a little while ago. i'll join in on the rejoicing and in the coming darkness the nostalgia will remain.
